Back from the battlefield with a sunburn

Saturday April 19
30°C, the sun was „burning“ (haha), I wore shorts and T-Shirt and the journey could begin.
Today I travelled to Harrisburg, which ist the capital of Pennsylvania. It’s a small town (53.000 people) but, you know, small towns have their own unique charme.
I arrived in Harrisburg at around 11.30 a.m and realised that something is going on there. Hmmm, what could it be? I walked to the capital place then, through a nice park, where all the spring flowers started to be in flower. So nice. And then I saw that there were built up a stage and barriers and everything and I decided to find out what’ll happen there...and see, they prepared to host Barack Obama in the evening. Election campaign in Pennsylvania, of course, where else than in the state capital?! Okay, I wondered if I liked to see that but as I noticed it’ll begin at 6.30 p.m. I decided not to join that event because I wanted to go to Gettysburg and I also didn’t know what I should do in Harrisburg the whole day...
So I strolled around in Harrisburg for a while, enjoyed the sun when sitting at the Susquehanna river and after a while decided to go back to the car and head on to Gettysburg.

I did that and arrived there around 1h later. And I must say, Gettysburg is really cute!!
Okay, I found the visitors information and asked about a tour of the battlefield and they gave me the directions for the new, 4 days ago opened big visitors center with museum and everything.

I was really excited to see the places where in the battle of Gettysburg from Juli 1-3 1863 so many people lost their lives. It was one of the bloodiest battles on the American continent and the turning point in the American civil war.
I arrived there and got some information and then decided to do the „Auto-Tour“ which means that you can visit all the importnat places on your own and with your car. You just have to follow the Auto-Tour signs and then you can do an appr. 24 miles trip.

And it was such a nice experience nice. Julia, you really would have liked it!! I did the whole trip and afterwards I was really excited but also a little bit shocked. It’s hard to understand how they had to fight in these times. When you see the soldiers nowadays, with all the high tech machines and weapons and everything and compare that to the times of this battle... Unbelievable. They must have been very brave. I mean, also today soldiers are really brave, but they have a lot more protection and everything.
Okay, I don’t wanna talk about war and soldiers anymore. Just let’s see. It was really interesting and I know now so much more about all the background of this battle. It was a really wonderful day and I drove back home with a smile on my face, the sun was still shining and when I arrived at home I saw that I got a sunburn!! And that in April, I’ve never had that before☺

Small anecdote....Royal news:
The Royals won in Elmira with 3-2 Overtime win and my burner shot the winning goal!! So, tomorrow, it’s hockey time again. One win and we would be in the ECHL North Division Finals!!! So, keep your fingers crossed for the boys!!
