At 5.15 a.m. it was time to say Goodbye to Gerda as well. I went my way to New York City, in order to meet Triin, Jeff and Joana again.
I wanted to be early in the city, that never sleeps, in order to get the feeling of New York City in the early morning, already looking forward to an one hour walk hear the wallstreet, time passed quick...
After I arrived at the central station, I went straight to the subway station. I never got lost in a subwaysystem before....but, anytime is always the first time.... watching out carefully (noone should know, I am a tourist), I had a look at the very difficult subway map of Manhattan. I decided line no. E is the perfect one for me (who wanted to go to the Path station- WCT ground zero). For beeing really sure, I asked a young looking women for help, she also told me, take E, that side! Perfect!
The subway arrived quite soon and I got into it. Beliebe it or not, the subways in NYC are full already (or especially) at 6.30a.m....so I tried to find a place to stand and was quite cheerfuland looking forward to my walk....
I could see out of the window, that the streets went up (I went into that train at 42nd street, next stop war something like 67th....strange) ....but also the women told me, to take that train, and in the train, tere was also World trade Center as destination. so I tried to not wonder..... So we went on and on...people went out the subway more and more... I said to myself,...ok...if the next station is still "higher" than 42nd street I gonna go out as well. Next station was 23rd street.....jeeee I am on the right way....anytime, also I had the possibility to sit! I took out the map, grda gave to me....and how wonderful, also on the map I found the 23th street, which was not that far away from my destination. I, sleepy as I were, didnt care, that I didnt found the other stations on that map...
Some time later, I felt kind of unsure about my doing- again, cause...I sat in that sub already so long, and acually it shouldnt have been that far. So I decided to ask the couple next to me. They also told me....yes, yes, this is the sub to WTC...haha.... I asked about 4 other people in the sub.... always the same answer....
7.27 a.m. we arrived the final-destination, which was not the Path Station.... exactly that had happend, what I was feared about.... I drove into the wrong direction....NICE! Also kind of very nice, that in the schedule of line E they have a station called 23rd street in both directions.....But ok....
So...wait 9 minutes, and the train will continue its way to WTC!! Wonderful, if you need to be at the Wall street at about 8 a.m. ahhhhh
So, the way to Path station seemed to be a never ending trip!! And my walk in the sun-riseing NYC will also stay a dream...:S
Arriving Path at 8.30 a.m. I tried to call Triin for telling her, I gonna be late, I realized that my phone is not able to phone US-Mobile Phones.... So find your way Julia..... that part (orientation), which normally is the biggest problem for me, went better, than ever expected.... I found the hotel rightaway!! Juhu!
2 minutes later Joana called, that she also arrived the wallstreet station, I picked her up, and we were ready for our trip to Amherst.
Ou...wait... I almost forgot....we needed to get Triins and Jeffs car out of the parkingspace.. hehe... see, in America, they have security everywhere, and if you think, you may pick up your car on your own, you fail!
So we needed to wait till someone appeared, who is allowed to pick up the car for them... I think, that took another half an hour! Great,....and we cant say, that we understood that way of security yet! But,...ok..
So we went our way to Amherst, decided, that the Bronx is not really the nicest place to live (you know.....Lasnamäe appears totaly nice in comparison with the Bronx!).
Arriving at Amherst we were really positiv surprised (cause Jeff and Triin tried to explain, that there is nothing to expect in that little village which is even smaller than Viljandi)! We really liked Amherst.
We went to Triins and Jeffs home, and were out of speech, when we saw the book, they have..... its like paradise!!
After eating lunch, Triin took us to the Emily Dickinson´s house and we took a 90 minutes tour through the life of Emily Dickinson.... It was so interesting and we enjoyed it a lot!
back at Triins and Jeffs we had dinner and a very nice talk about Bush-Bumperstickers in America, we organised the next morning and our weekend in Boston!
